Bella Vista Lodge, now in its tenth season,, represents un-paralleled luxury and comfort, from which to enjoy the best of the fishing on the Rio Gallegos. Completely renovated in 1996, the charming Estancia is situated a five minute walk from the river at the heart of one of the largest working sheep farms in Patagonia.
An added bonus for Bella Vista is the Chico Gallegos a small spring creek rich with shrimp, and insects where you can fish for resident brown trout in the 3-7 pound range. Ranging from 5 feet t 15 feet wide, it is hard to believe it can produce so many large fish.
Continually improved and added to, the lodge comprises 5 en suite bedrooms to accommodate a maximum of 8 guests, a comfortable living room, a large wading room and spacious complimentary bar; fully stocked with local and imported spirits, to toast the one that got away!
Lamb and beef raised on the Farm ensure quality ingredients on which the Chef bases an array of delicious, traditional Argentine specialties. Carefully selected wines compliment his mouth-watering menus.
On average more than half of the Sea-runs caught on the Rio Gallegos are 10lbs in weight and one in three fishermen leaves with a 20lber!
Isn't it time you took the challenge of "The Fisherman's River"?
It is a long trip from the States to southern Argentina. Most of the flights from the US to Buenos Aires are overnight flights arriving in the morning. Most people choose to overnight at least one day in Buenos Aires just to help with the jet lag and enjoy this beautiful and fun city.
You will then need to take a commercial flight to Rio Grande Airport. Once you arrive in Rio Grande you will be met by our driver in a four wheel drive vehicle for your 1 and a half hour drive to the lodge. You will have a chance to explore the grounds, organize your gear and get ready for the next day of fishing.
The Daily Program:
- Guests will leave the lodge around 9 o'clock after breakfast, fishing till around 1 o'clock.
- Following lunch and a siesta,(the hours of which will depend on the season) Guests return
to the river between 5 and 6 o'clock and fish through till dusk. Fishing hours will change
slightly depending on the time of year, this far south there is plenty of daylight!!.
- Bella Vista has a team of experienced, professional international guides.
- They are all English speakers, and will be able to offer tips on how to best fish each pool,
fly choice and presentation.
