Head Guide Esteban EtchepareWhere does the trip start? The trips in the early part of the season are based out of Bariloche, Argentina and the later season may be serviced out of Chapelco, Argentina.   First you have to fly to Buenos Aires and then take a small commuter flight to either of these two mountain towns.  To book the flights to the mountain towns give me a call and I can help out. The price for the flight from Buenos Aires to the mountains is about $250-$300.

How much does it cost to get to Buenos Aires? My last ticket from Boston to Buenos Aires was $800 ( through Orbitz) The flight to Barlioche was $240

Do the guides speak English? Yes, all our guides speak English as well as Spanish.

Do you have access to private water? Argentina is like Alaska, once we are on the river there is no private water.  There is lots of private access over land that many lodges or ranches own, but with a float trip we are able to fish right through "private water".  we have leased key access rights in the areas we launch and take out.

Is it safe in Argentina with all I hear about the economy? You could argue that it is less safe in Buenos Aires but it would still compare to any major city here in the US.  If the CNN cameras are on you will find a group protesting the governments handling of the economy.  When the economy first collapsed there was some violence that erupted but now it has settled in and I did not feel uncomfortable at all in Buenos Aires. In the mountain towns it is absolutely no difference, it is safe and quiet and you would never know the economy is bad.  The peso has been devaluated so the deals are tremendous.  Anything made in Argentina will be half the price you would expect.

How many fish do you catch? A great day is fifty and a bad day is 8.  If you are an intermediate fisherman you should average 20 nice fish a day.  The mix is about 75% rainbows and 25% browns.  The biggest fish are in the beginning and end of the season. This is when the 20 pound browns show up in the rivers. During the middle of the season 10 pound fish may be the largest fish caught on the trip.  Most of the trophy fish are in the 5-8 pound range during the heart of the season (Dec to mid-March)

Do you need a visa for Argentina? All you need to bring is your passport.  We will take care of all other documentation,   your fishing license will be purchased with the aid of your guides.

Camp Manager and Chef - Pedro EcheverriaWhat unexpected charges are we likely to find? Depending on your flights from the states, you may or may not need a hotel in Buenos Aires.  Mo st flights land in the morning from the US. You will need to transfer to the local airport from the international airport by taxi,  expect a $20 cab fare. After that you will be fed and housed by us, either on the river or at a hotel depending on the itinerary you have chosen. No charges there except for alcohol. The last place to spend money is the tip for your guide. A 10% tip is average - divided between the guides and the camp staff ( if your itinerary includes overnight camping)

Are there bugs? Nope, it is more like Montana than Alaska.   Dry almost desert like terrain with little habitat for bugs.

What is the weather like? Well in the beginning of the season and the end it can be quite chilly with lows getting down to 40 and high from 55-75.  Mid summer it is 70-85 during the day and 50 degrees at night.  The fall will start back down to more spring like weather.  It is dry all season we get more sunny days than rainy days, it's again more like Montana than Alaska.
