Frequently Asked Questions

FLIGHTS: You will want to arrange your flight into Congo Town airport on Andros Island from your point of origin. Generally, you take a regular commercial carrier to Nassau, then connect with a Bahamas Air flight. It is also possible to charter a flight from Florida if you would like to arrange that with your group.

PASSPORTS: A valid US passport is the required now when traveling to the Bahamas.

VISA REQUIREMENTS: There is no US visa required for travel to the Bahamas for visits of less than 8 months.

MONEY: US money is accepted everywhere here, dollar for dollar in Nassau and on Andros. Credit cards are accepted in VERY few places on Andros. Bring your cash in 20's not 100's as most purchases will be small and large bills can present a problem at small stores. Keep an eye out for Bahamian dimes as they have a bonefish on them and make for great souvenirs.

WATER: You do not want to drink the water from the tap at the lodge since it is not purified. Bottled water is provided at the hotel.

ELECTRICITY: Electricity is AC, 120 volts. Standard US appliances work fine.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: There are no immunizations required for entry into the Bahamas. For the latest information on health and immunization requirements worldwide, you may visit the Center for Disease Control web-site at www.cdc.gov. We recommend travel insurance in case of any emergency that would require imminent transportation to theUS.

TRAVEL INSURANCE: We strongly recommend travel insurance for your trip to the Bahamas. There is a medical clinic on the island, but additional medical access is limited. We have taken great precautions in providing a trip that is safe and rewarding. In the event that something unexpected were to happen, it would be wise to have prepared in advance by purchasing travel insurance. Evacuation insurance is available for minimal coverage, and complete travel insurance is available for providing help with lost baggage, changed flights, etc. We can provide you with the necessary insurance information.

GETTING FROM NASSAU TO NCongo Town Andros

Nassau to Congo TownAirport
Western Air (242) 377-2222 www.WesternAirBahamas.com
Downtown Nassau to Morgans Bluff by Ferry
Bahamas Ferries (242) 323-2166 or 323-2165 www.BahamasFerries.com

Note: There are four airports on Andros. Be sure to book only to Congo Town airport (SAQ) on North Andros. You will have to call Western Air directly to book your flight and will not be able to purchase Western Air tickets through other airlines or your travel agent. There is one morning and one afternoon flight from Nassau to Congo Town daily.

You can also catch a charter flight usually without reservation from Nassau to Congo Town in the morning or late afternoon that will carry four anglers and their gear for about $200-$250. Seeing the Joulters from the air is something you'll not forget and worth the "price of admission". You will have to take a short cab ride to the charter terminal from the regular terminal.

Charter airlines and pilots can provide some alternatives from Ft. Lauderdale to Andros but they charge by the plane, not the person, so having about four people makes it fairly reasonable. You can fly from Ft Lauderdale Executive Airport, which is about a 20 minute cab ride from Ft Lauderdale International Airport, directly to Congo Town. Watch weight requirements as it usually takes a 6-person plane to handle four men and all their gear. Email us if you're interested in this option.
