Where do we fly to? You fly to Belize City, Belize.  It is serviced out of Miami, Houston, Charlotte and other cities by Continental and American Airlines, US Air, Delta, United, Taca and others.  The Airport Code for Belize City is BZE. The package prices we offer include the flight from Belize City to the island.

Do I need a passport? Yes, no visa is needed in advance, but you do need a passport.

What language to they speak in Belize? This is the former British Honduras and almost  everyone speaks English as well as Spanish, Creole or Garufina.

Is the food  and water safe? When asked this question I am speaking about our resort, not the rest of Belize.  If you travel to other parts of Belize the answer is quite different. We have our own water desalinization plant and purification system.  The water is safe to drink out of your tap.  We also have an American trained food and Beverage director and chef that know the value of safe food handling.  These American standards insure that your food is bought, stored, prepared and served with food safety in mind.  If you go to the town of San Pedro and certainly Belize City you always need to drink bottled water and be concerned about the food you select.

What about money in Belize? One US dollar is worth 2 Belizean dollars . All stores accept US dollars or Belizean dollars.   The prices everywhere on the island will be in Belizean dollars. If you have any doubt just ask if the price is Belizean or US. There are several ATM's in the town of San Pedro

How is the Fishing? I recomend this location because of the vast opportunities to fish on your own without a guide.  Th Salamander's remote location is perfect for a do it your self trip. When you use one of our professional guides the fishing will be the same for any of the resorts we use on Ambergris with the exception that you will be able to visit some areas to the north that are too far for most locations. Since we pay our guides extar to travel further this translates into better fishign for you.

I love this part of Belize because it has a good even mix of the most desireable fish.  There are bonefish galore, but having tarpon year round ( on flats no less), and permit year round makes this place fun.  A good bonefish day with an experienced flyfisher is 15 fish. A poor day that same person can expect 3 fish.   It also depends on the type of fishing you do.  I like stalking individual fish in very shallow water so a daily total for me might only be 7 fish.  In other situations the guide may stake you off near a school of a thousand fish where you may catch 10 in an hour, but it is virtually blind casting.  Tarpon landings are few and far between.  That's why the term "jumped a fish" is used.  Hook them, watch them jump 5 feet in the air,  and throw the hook. There have been weeks where a group of 6 have landed 30 permit and other weeks when a group of 6 lands 3 permit.  They are the most unpredictable fish.  You will always have shots if you persue these fish.

Will my non-fishing family like it here? The rooms are complete, the food is fantastic but the accommodations are more rustic than our other destinations.  This is a plus for soem because it comes with remoteness, and a negative for others who want to be pampered a bit more. There is no air conditioning or pool here . You can go any on one the many pay as you go excursions like diving, The manatee snorkel tour, the Mayan ruin tour - the list goes on and on.   So feel free to talk to us more to make sure your family is right for this spot.

Are there any unexpected charges? The price for the trip includes the air and water transfers from Belize city to the resort, all taxes, fishing license, lodging, 3 meals a day,   The only other charges not included are: a $15 departue tax at Belize City when you leave the country (sometimes this is included in the air fare from the US.), a tip for your fishing guide ($40-50/day/boat) a tip for the salamander staff  ( about 10 per day per person) and the bar tab.  This one can add up so be careful!! Since you are relatively remote it costs a great deal to ship the food and beverages here.   There is plenty of water and lemonade or limeade included with the package.   At the end of the trip when you check out you will settle your bar tab and pay for any extra excursions you or your family booked. In the mean time everything is charged to your room

What shots do I need? The CDC recommends lots of vaccines for Belize because they are speaking about the entire country.  Some areas have no sanitation at all and no waste disposal at all. You will be at risk in those areas. Most all of the diseases on the CDC list such as Typhoid are completely eliminated by normal sanitation and waste treatment. Hepatitis A has never been reported at Journeys End.  Therefore the only legitimate risk on their list for visiting Journeys End is Malaria which is carried by certain mosquitoes.  Since we do have some mosquitoes it is possible that Malaria could be contracted while visiting us.  The risk is indeed small but there.  Please consult you doctor about  anti malaria pills if you have any concerns about Malaria or any other health risks while visiting Belize.
