Rods, Reels and Lines
1 - 9 weight, single handed fly rod, case and appropriate reel loaded with floating line and
backing (suggest 4 piece rod and large/mid-arbor reel with working drag)
1- 5 or 6 weight, single handed fly rod, case and appropriate reel with floating line and backing
(suggest 4 piece rod and large/mid-arbor reel with working drag)
- Spare spools with sinking line (optional) We generally don’t use sinking lines. In
extraordinary cases, we may tie a bit of sinking tippet to a floating line.
- Spey rod (7 – 9 weight) (optional) If you’re an enthusiast, please bring a two handed
rod along. However, please recognize that opportunities to use them are limited.
Leader and Tippet
7' Tapered leader for Taimen. Think very large salmon. 15 pound test
Casting larger streamers and mouse-type patterns.
7' Tapered leader for trout. Think big rainbow or brown in very clear water. 12 pound 1X, 0X
Casting small mouse, hoppers, stimulators, and streamers.
- Assortment of tippet (suggest spool each of 4lb, 6lb, 8lb,10lb, 14lb, 20lb)
- Sinking tippet (optional)

Flies: We provide all flies - but bring your own favorites almost everything works. Taimen feed on rodents,
birds, and other fish. They hit splashy surface flies and fish imitating wet flies. Trout
and grayling focus on “generals” – dark hoppers, adams, stimulators, egg sucking
leeches, etc.
