Mairenui Farm Holidays is one of the longest established country home stays in the Rangitikei district, and our principle lodging option since the 2001 - 2002 season. David and Sue Sweet are your hosts at this comfortable traditional high country farm home, where you will experience gracious the hospitality New Zealand is known for. Four generations on this property, the rustic main homestead is well appointed with authentic antiques and hand made native wood furniture. The grounds are a magnificent garden of exotic and native plants, laced with lawns and ponds. Bedrooms are double bed or twin beds, with en suite baths. Each bedroom has a private verandah overlooking the spacious grounds.

Casual attire is all that is needed around the home, and the atmosphere is relaxed and casual. Meals are scheduled around the fishing activities. David hosts a relaxing cocktail hour around the fire while Sue works her considerable magic preparing the evening meal. Sue is skilled in the art of international gourmet cuisine, and the menu is delightfully varied. Fine New Zealand wines are served with dinner.

For non fishing guests, there's lots to do on the property. Go for a horseback ride, explore the garden, see some authentic farm activities, watch the sheep dogs in action, or maybe a 4 wheel drive tour. Other activities in the district are at hand too, such as whitewater rafting, historic home visits, shopping, scenic flights, native bush walks, nearby forest parks and much much more.

Motels:

There are several motels in the area that we can book you into.  Basic clean rooms are available for  ranging from NZ$70-$100.

Taihape Motel: Taihape, our nearest town, has several motels to choose from. Taihape Motel has been very accommodating in working with anglers, going that extra mile to make your stay convenient and comfortable. Restaurants in Taihape are now numerous and excellent. Many anglers prefer to stay at a motel, rather than a country home stay as a matter of personal choice. Taihape is centrally located for guided fishing, and we'll pick you up and drop you off there each day. We're happy to book you in, just let us know.

Mangaweka Camping Ground: If you're in a motor home, or just plain want to camp, the Mangaweka Camp Ground, situated on the Rangitikei River, is a super option for you. This is a beautiful setting, among native trees with the Rangitikei River right outside your door. We will happily arrange camping for anglers that we are guiding.

Other Options: Several additional good quality country home stays and motels exist in our district. Should either of the above options be unsuitable for you, we can still accommodate you, no problem.

Alpine Safari Lodge: Situated on the Upper Rangitikei River, this lodge is the centerpiece of a large Safari Park where several types of trophy deer roam the grounds.

We are pleased to offer this lodging option during their early season prior to the hunting season. In late Spring and early summer, anglers guided by Rangitikei Anglers-Jack MacKenzie have the option to stay at this modern well appointed lodgment situated in a remote valley on the Upper Rangitikei River about 45 minutes Northeast of Taihape.

Peak fishing months of December and January make this a very central location for some of the North Islands finest helicopter access trophy trout fishing, as well as an excellent location from which to undertake on-foot and rafting access fly fishing. With several superb pools accessible from the lodge, anglers can enjoy fly fishing right on the property.

Hospitality is informal and very comfortable with excellent cuisine and fine wines. All Rooms offer privacy and comfort, including en suite bathrooms. Many outdoor activities are available for non-fishing partners both on and off this beautiful property.
