Fly Pattern Recipe
HOOK: TMC 811S #4-#8.
THREAD: White. pink or tan 3/0.
BODY: Clear body glass over pearl Krystal flash.
WING: Tan or white calftail with pearl Krystal flash.
EYES: Chrome bead chain.
  • Wrap thread back from eye of hook and attach eyes with figure 8 wraps .Wrap thread to rear of hook and attach 3 strands of krystal flash and the clear body glass.Wrap thread to frontWrap the krystal flash forward and figure eight it around the eyes. Tie off in front of eyes.Wrap body glass to front and around eyes (stretch at different tensions to achieve taper).Attach calftail and a couple strands of flash in front of the eyes.

    Notes Tie about a hook-gape width of yarn firmly to the top of the hook in the center of the shank. Raise the yarn straight up and take several circular turns of thread around its base. Then trim the yarn quickly with a sharp pair of serrated scissors while pulling up on the yarn. (There is a glo bug yarn dispenser on the market which makes this quite easy with no waste)

    Fly Pattern Recipe
    THREAD: Uni-thread 3/0 pink.
    TAIL: Strands of pearl Flashabou or Krystal Flash.
    BODY: Pearl Diamond Braid.
    WING: Pearl Krystal Flash over tan or blonde craft fur.
    EYES: Silver bead chain.
    1. Tie in  for eyes. You can use beadchain for the eyes but lead eyes are the original for this pattern . Use figure eight wraps to tie in eyes.
    2. Tie in Krystal flash for the tail fibers. Use about 10 strands for the tail, cut short later.
    3. Tie in a  4-5 inch strand of the Pearl Diamond Braid for the body of this fly. . Wind the braid forward and figure eight over the beadchain , tie off in the head area.
    4. Tie in a small clump of tan craft fur for wing. Measure wing to be a little past the bend of the hook. Add 5-6 strands of pearl Krystal flash and tie in over the wing ( same length ).
    5. Whip finish and cement. </ small>

    Del's Merkin

    Fly Pattern Rec ipe
    HOOK: Heavy #3/0 to #8.
    THREAD: 6/0 monocord.
    TAIL: Four or six hackle points and a few strands of Krystal Flash.
    BODY: Stiff acrylic rug yarn, such as Aunt Lydia’s Rug Yarn.
    LEGS: Rubber leg material.
    EYES: Dumbbell eyes.

    Place the hook in the vise, attach dumbbell eyes to the top of the hook shank. . With the hook in the upright position in the vise, attach a tail of four to six hackle points, with two or three hackles pointing out on each side. Add a few strands of Krystal Flash. Turn the hook over i n your vise so that its point is up. Attach a short piece of acrylic rug yarn so that it is horizontal to the hook. Secure the yarn with several thread X-wraps. Tie on a short piece of white, rubber-leg material by crisscrossing the rubber with your thread. Build the body by adding more yarn and rubber-leg material, making sure you pack the materials as close as possible to the previous materials. You should end up with six or eight legs. Complete the body with yarn and secure the thread in front of the dumbbell eyes. Trim the yarn and the legs to the desired length. Use a red or black permanent marker to color the tips of the legs. DO NOT USE CEMENT permit can smell it!!

    Fly Pattern Recipe
    HOOK: TMC #2-4/0.
    THREAD: fluorescent green single strand nylon floss. (or any heavy thread of your choice)
    TAIL: White hackle and pearl Accent Flash.
    UNDERBODY: Tinsel or mylar
    WING: Green bucktail, top; white bucktail, bottom Substitute any color for the top wing (blue is my favorite).
    THROAT: Red Accent Flash.
    EYES: Painted white with black pupils.
    HEAD: Thread and 5-minute epoxy.
    1. At bend of hook wrap forward with thread then mylar or tinsel to form a thin silver body.
      Tie in the hackle feathers so they lay along side the body ( this creates the sides and tail
      .Add the pearl flash on top of the hackles
      Add the top wing above that
      Add the bottom wing or belly underneath ( the belly is always white)Add the throat material
    2. Wrap the head and paint or glue eyes as shown and coat entire head with epoxy.
